Hutt Lagoon is located on the coast of Western Australia, just over an hour’s drive north of Geraldton or approximately 30 minutes by plane.
This elongated lake is situated in a dune swamp adjacent to the coast, and the town of Gregory is located between the ocean and the southern shore of the lake. George Gray Drive, which connects Northampton and Kalbarri, runs along its eastern border.
The lagoon extends for about 14 km on its northwest-southeast axis, parallel to the coast, and is about 2.3 km wide.

Due to its position below sea level, Hutt Lagoon constantly receives seepage of seawater throughout the year. During the winter rainy season, the amount of water entering the lagoon increases substantially due to the influx of meteoric groundwater.
The lagoon has a Mediterranean climate, with an average annual precipitation of 449 mm (mainly from May to August) and an average annual evaporation rate of 2445 mm.
These factors create an environment where salt is deposited seasonally, and rates and container style maintain a balance between water intake and removal by evaporation.

The Best Time to Visit
If you want to witness the beauty of Hutt Lagoon in all its splendor, we recommend visiting during the months between June and November. During this time, weather conditions are relatively moderate, and rain fills the lagoon with water, highlighting the vibrant pink color that characterizes it.
On the contrary, in summer, the evaporation of water on the surface makes the lagoon resemble a dry salt flat, making it less visually impressive.
Tips for the Visit
If you want to explore this natural wonder, keep in mind that the only way to visit Pink Lake is by private vehicle, plane, or by joining a guided tour.
In the neighboring town of Port Gregory, you will find restaurants, shops and other facilities to make your visit more comfortable. However, be aware that it is not safe to swim or paddle in the water as the bottom is covered in thick mud.
